  i think most of us agree that they are not misled themselves, but know they're wrong and continue to teach it as truth. i think there is a lot of pressure for new governing body members to conform. only apostates know what goes on in a governing body meeting. so when a regular brother finally makes governing body, it's like they worked too hard to not just do what everyone else is doing... they don't want to seem like the apostate...

  i have only been here a couple of weeks, and while i find most of you to be kindhearted, understanding and supportive, i can't help but get the feeling that there are some of us who are not who they say they are.

  i'm not trying to be presumptuous, but do you think some people pretend to be x-witnesses just to mess with us?

  i think there could be some like that... but they won't be as knowledgeable as real ex-jw's... and if they are, then that's great because we know they'll never be joining the jw's AND they will have witty rejoinders for jw's at the door!

  i am so sick of witnesses reserving catchphrases for themselves.. talking to my wifes mother today she kept referring to "the friends".

  "the friends came over today, we went to lunch with the friends".

  well if they are "the friends", then what the hell are everyone else?

  I always find it strange when people refer to the JW's as 'The Friends'. Its a term we just didn't use in Australia

  same as in canada... i don't remember ever hearing that expression from witnesses in regards to other witnesses

  If WT shuning practices were removed, what would be the result?

  imagine if the wt in brookline decided it was "scriptually incorrect" to shun ex-j.w.

  's for any reason, what do you think would happen if they stopped the shunning practice?

  There would be a mass exodus. The faders would "come out of the closet", knowing there would be no consequences of cutoff from relatives and friends.
